  • WAUKESHA COUNTY RESIDENTS ASKED TO KEEP PROPANE CYLINDERS OUT OF RECYCLING CONTAINERS THIS MEMORIAL DAY

As grilling season gets underway with Memorial Day and nice weather approaching, Waukesha County wants to reminder residents to recycle right by knowing the acceptable recyclables. We ask residents not to place propane cylinders, plastic bags, scrap metal and other potentially hazardous items in their curbside recycling container.

“Residents should understand that improper disposal of dangerous and non-recyclable materials in the curbside recycling containers not only causes costly damage to the equipment, but also puts collection and recycling facility workers at serious risk,” said Rebecca Mattano, Recycling & Solid Waste Supervisor for Waukesha County. “Much of this work is done by hand, creating a hazardous situation for people who are providing service to us all.”

Waukesha County residents are reminded of the following resources available:
    • The 8 Ways to Recycle Right
    • Acceptable curbside recycling information and guide available at http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling/
    • The free Waukesha County Recycles mobile app that provides detailed information on what is recyclable curbside as well as what and how to recycle or safely dispose of other items in the community, where to take them, along with navigation to the selected location

Waukesha County residents can find more information at www.waukeshacounty.gov/recycling, through the free Waukesha County Recycles mobile app available in the App Store and Google Play Store, by liking the Waukesha County Recycles Facebook page and following @WaukCoRecycles on Twitter or by calling 262-896-8300.
